After 418 games without interruption for Lausanne HC, Lukas Frick's record streak came to an end on Wednesday.

The player from eastern Switzerland, who had not missed a championship game with the Vaud team since September 2017, was injured in the 3:2 derby win in Geneva.

Frick's record streak would have been broken by the end of the season anyway. The 30-year-old, who also played 69 international games during his streak - with the 2018 World Championship silver medal as the highlight - will move to HC Davos for the coming season.

The absolute Swiss record is held by Ivo Rüthemann, who never missed a game in 523 consecutive games for HC Davos and SC Bern from December 1995 to October 2005. The world record holder is the American Phil Kessel, who played an incredible 1064 (!) games in the NHL without interruption from 2009 to 2023, winning the Stanley Cup three times in the process.
