Open AI has been working on a massive upgrade for ChatGPT for some time now. Much is still secret. Essentially, the aim is to improve the language model's ability to process information in real time.

  • OpenAI has been working on a secret upgrade for ChatGPT for several years.
  • The aim is for ChatGPT to search the internet for information, which will lead to more precise answers and a new level of logical thinking.
  • Although the project is promising and is already showing progress, the exact release date is not yet known.

OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence company, is working behind closed doors on a major upgrade to its well-known AI model ChatGPT. As a report by Reuters, based on statements by OpenAI employees and internal company documents, reveals, the project is codenamed "Strawberry" and is being kept top secret.

Real-time search on a new level

Strawberry is intended to enable ChatGPT to independently carry out "thorough searches" on the Internet. What sounds abstract at first, according to internal sources, means that the AI will be able to search the internet independently in future in order to generate more precise answers for users. Until now, ChatGPT had to be explicitly asked to include the internet in the query.

This capability would represent a significant step forward: ChatGPT and other AI models could then no longer rely solely on their training knowledge, but actively search for up-to-date information. This could take logical thinking to a new level. Initial internal tests are already showing promising results. Strawberry enables the AI to solve complex scientific questions and mathematical equations that currently overwhelm AI models.

When will Strawberry be released?

The further development of ChatGPT and other AI models is a long-term goal of OpenAI. The company recently defined five development stages for artificial intelligence and explained the level at which current programs such as ChatGPT are at. Project Strawberry could be the necessary upgrade to reach the next stage of development.

However, a specific release date for the Strawberry upgrade is not yet known. This is mainly due to the fact that the project is being developed in strict secrecy. What is known, however, is that OpenAI has been working on Strawberry for some time. At the end of 2023, the project was still referred to internally as "Q*" and was already considered a potential breakthrough at the time.
