As part of an inspection of national and international heavy goods traffic, the Valais cantonal police stopped a Romanian truck on the A9 highway on Monday evening, as reported on Tuesday. During the subsequent inspection of the load at the heavy goods traffic competence center in Saint-Maurice VS, the police discovered that a liquid was leaking from a damaged metal barrel.
According to the press release, this was a hazardous substance that posed a potential risk to the environment. The police point out that such substances are subject to strict regulations regarding packaging and labeling in order to rule out any risks.
The cantonal police officers immediately secured the area and alerted the relevant partners. In addition to the NBC specialists from the chemical company Cimo in Monthey and the fire departments of Chablais and Aigle, an ambulance and the Monthey municipal police were also deployed.
The driver was reported to the Road Traffic and Navigation Department. He must expect a heavy fine.
