The idea is that employees with low performance ratings will have to leave the company more quickly. New people are to be hired for their jobs, according to an announcement from founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to employees, as reported by the financial service Bloomberg and the tech blog "The Verge".

According to the latest figures, Meta had around 72,000 employees, meaning that around 3,600 jobs could be affected by the cuts. According to the media reports, the current performance reviews will be completed in February.

Meta had initially grown rapidly at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic - and then cut a good 20,000 jobs. Zuckerberg had proclaimed 2023 to be the "year of efficiency". Meta profits rose after the job cuts. This time, however, according to him, it is about ensuring that the company has the most capable employees and can hire new people.
