Toyota's truck division Hino Motors is to pay 1.6 billion dollars in the USA for emissions fraud. Hino agreed on this amount with US authorities, as announced by the Department of Justice.

The agreement will only come into effect once it has been approved by the competent court.

According to the Department of Justice, falsified information on emissions and fuel consumption tests ensured that more than 110,000 diesel engines with unlawfully obtained registrations were sold in the USA between 2010 and 2022. Hino has admitted to violating US environmental laws, emphasized US Attorney General Merrick Garland.
