Trade fair boss Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), presented the award to Digital Minister Volker Wissing (non-party), who had come to Las Vegas with a delegation.

In addition to Germany, 24 other countries were classified in the highest category of "Innovation Champion", including Switzerland. The highest award was given to countries with a well-trained workforce, fast broadband internet, a business-friendly climate and openness to new technologies.

Exhibition Director Shapiro said that the rating system was introduced in 2019. "It is designed to rank the country according to the policies and practices that fuel the fire of innovation or stand in the way of progress."

The CTA examines which countries have the political, economic and demographic conditions that encourage innovators to invent the future.

"It's not just about evaluating investment and reducing red tape for start-ups, but also recognizing that countries can ensure freedom of expression, create opportunities for a diverse work environment and respect people's fundamental freedoms."

Wissing said that the Innovation Award was encouraging and made him optimistic. "However, the award is also a good example of the fact that we in Germany have a bad reputation in many areas." The location is perceived more positively abroad. "Made in Germany is still popular here."

Looking at the CES exhibitors from Germany, it can be said that the innovations on show here make it clear that Germany is "right at the forefront".

Australia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, the Czech Republic and the United States were also recognized as innovation champions.
