Thomas Gyseler has been elected as the new mayor of Frutigen. The candidate of the Liberales Frutigen party replaces Hans Schmid-Zimmermann of the SVP, who resigned prematurely for health reasons.

Gyseler received 1916 votes, while his rival Hans Germann from the SVP received 776 votes. The voter turnout was 53.6 percent, as the municipality of Frutigen announced on Sunday. Apart from Gyseler and Germann, no other candidates stood for the office.

Thomas Gyseler-Hauswirth was born in 1970 and previously served as deputy mayor of Frutigen. He will take up his new post on October 1; the term of office runs until the end of 2025.
