The SVP is concerned about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in Kirchenfeld in Bern. It has lodged an objection to the streetcar track renovation project on Thunstrasse.

The public planning consultation ended this week. According to Bernmobil, the track system from Helvetiaplatz to Luisenstrasse needs to be replaced, as does the overhead line system between Helvetiaplatz and Thunplatz. Construction work is planned for the second half of 2026.

According to a press release, the SVP section Innenstadt-Schosshalde-Kirchenfeld criticizes the fact that important traffic safety issues were not included in the technical report. The mixed traffic on the sidewalks of Thunstrasse and Helvetiaplatz is dangerous. Pedestrians and cyclists are inadequately protected.

In addition, the needs of the stores had to be taken into consideration during the renovation period. The construction work had to be coordinated with the work on the Kirchenfeldbrücke bridge. Sufficient parking spaces must also be available close to customers after the renovation.
