Stefan Neuenschwander has been elected as the new mayor of Belp. The SP candidate replaces Benjamin Marti of the SVP, who did not stand for a further term of office.

Neuenschwander received 2361 votes and thus achieved a two-thirds majority. Markus Müller from the Center Party received 1064 votes. The remaining votes were invalid or blank.

Voter turnout was 45 percent, as the municipality of Belp announced on Sunday. Apart from Neuenschwander and Müller, no other candidates stood for the office.

Stefan Neuenschwander is 38 years old and works as a notary. He has been deputy mayor of Belp since 2017 and is the son of former mayor Rudolf Neuenschwander.
