An 83-year-old driver damaged five vehicles in a parking lot in Risch on Sunday afternoon and crashed into a tree. He and his passenger had to be taken to hospital, as the Zug law enforcement authorities reported on Monday.

The pensioner wanted to leave a parking lot in the "Breitfeld" area in Risch when he lost control of his car while reversing and crashed into three stationary cars, the law enforcement authorities said.

He then drove forward, damaged two more cars and crashed into a tree.

The 83-year-old man and his 85-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries, according to the statement. Both were taken to hospital.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated. A medical problem with the person who caused the accident is the main cause, it said.

The amount of property damage is considerable and cannot yet be quantified, according to the law enforcement authorities.
