Municipal vote Muri municipality keeps its name

The municipality of Muri bei Bern will not be renamed Muri-Gümligen. The electorate has spoken out against the name change.

3219 voters rejected the partial revision of the municipal ordinance associated with the name change, while 2135 approved it. The turnout was 62.5 percent, as the municipality announced on Sunday.

Although Muri bei Bern is already known colloquially as Muri-Gümligen, formally it will remain the same. The desired name change is based on a motion by the municipal SP parliamentary group president Angelo Zaccaria. The municipal parliament narrowly approved his motion in November 2023 by 18 votes to 16.
