The slightly less hot summer has led to significantly lower ozone levels in the Basel region. Nevertheless, the limit values were exceeded throughout the region, as reported by the Basel Air Hygiene Office on Tuesday.

The peak concentrations at the seven measuring stations ranged from 134 micrograms per cubic meter at Feldbergstrasse in Basel to 171 micrograms per cubic meter in Binningen, according to the press release.

The Ordinance on Air Pollution Control stipulates that the hourly average ozone concentration may not exceed 120 micrograms per cubic meter for more than one hour per year. This limit was exceeded this summer, for example for 19 hours at Feldbergstrasse in Basel. Compared to the previous year, however, this corresponds to a significant reduction of 70 hours on each street.

This year, only the fine weather phases at the end of July and in August led to a higher number of hours in which the limit value was exceeded, it continues.
