The planned residential development on the site near the Oberwangen S-Bahn station can be realized. The voters of Köniz have approved the amendment to the building regulations with a three-quarters majority.

This was announced by the municipality on Sunday. 9163 voters said yes to the proposal, 2811 rejected it. The voter turnout was 44.7 percent.

A dense residential development is to be built with additional uses such as retail and services as well as healthcare and education facilities. The plans include 190 apartments for around 380 residents and around 40 workplaces.

"The site is already building land today and lies fallow," said municipal councillor Christian Burren (SVP) according to the press release. With the planned development, it could be put to good use and a new district could be created in the center of Oberwangen.
