A van driver fled from the police in Schaffhausen on Thursday evening because he came into a checkpoint at 72 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h. A patrol took off in pursuit. A patrol took up the chase. The 31-year-old's escape ended after a head-on collision with another van against a wall.

No one was injured, as the cantonal police reported on Friday. After the accident, the at-fault van driver got out of his vehicle. It rolled backwards into the police patrol vehicle without a driver and without being secured, damaging it.

The man's van was totaled. He was later found to be unfit to drive and was taken to hospital. The police confiscated the 31-year-old's driver's license. He has to answer to the public prosecutor's office.
