On Sunday, the canton of Jura approved the agreement governing the change of canton from Moutier with 72.9 percent of the vote. The turnout was 50.3 percent. There were also signs of broad approval in the canton of Bern.

Two Jura municipalities rejected the concordat: Bure in Ajoie with 51% and Ederswiler, the only German-speaking municipality in the canton of Jura, with 51.1%. The highest percentage of yes votes was recorded in Lajoux, a municipality in the Franches-Montagnes, with 91%.

All three Jura districts accepted the intercantonal agreement. The most timid approval was in Ajoie with 65.3%. Part of the population of the district of Pruntrut fears that they will be disadvantaged in future, as Moutier will now be the second-largest town in the canton of Jura after Delsberg.

If the canton of Bern also says yes to the concordat, which is to be expected based on the administrative districts that have already been counted, the federal councillors still have to give their blessing to the transfer of Moutier from Bern to Jura. This is only a formality. Moutier will then become part of the Jura at the beginning of 2026.
