In its session on Wednesday, the Nidwalden cantonal council briefly discussed an interpellation from barbershops and cheap hairdressers. The government stated that the controls were "complex".

In an interpellation, the two petitioners, Jvo Eicher (center) and Markus Walker (SVP), wanted to know from the government, among other things, how many businesses had been found to be in violation and whether the various laws were being complied with.

Justice and Security Director Karin Kayser-Frutschi (center) said that checks were being carried out in the stores. Addressing the district councillors, she stated: "Possible violations are not carried out in the salon." More cross-cantonal cooperation is needed on this issue.

The Tripartite Labor Market Commission (TAK), which is responsible for compliance with the regulations, carried out an inspection in the canton of Nidwalden in 2022. No misconduct was found, according to the cantonal government. The cantonal police are responsible for possible white-collar crime offenses. They have not carried out any checks in the last two years, according to the government.

According to the Government Council's response to the initiative, there were 84 hairdressing salons with 163 employees in the canton of Nidwalden in 2021. Nine hairdressing salons are classified by the Nidwalden cantonal police as barbershops or low-cost hairdressers: four of them in Stans, three in Buochs and two in Hergiswil.
