Traffic accident 75-year-old female driver dies in collision in Aesch BL

A 75-year-old woman was fatally injured in a head-on collision between a car and a truck in Aesch BL on Monday afternoon. For reasons as yet unexplained, the driver of the car crossed into the oncoming lane on the A18 motorway in the direction of Basel.

The car crashed head-on into the truck coming the other way, Basel-Landschaft police reported on Tuesday. The driver was so seriously injured that she died at the scene of the accident.

The 21-year-old truck driver was in shock. The ambulance service took the man to hospital for a medical check-up.

A towing company removed the two damaged vehicles. The A18 highway between Angenstein and the Aesch exit was closed in both directions for several hours for the duration of the rescue and recovery work.

The police have launched an investigation in collaboration with the Basel-Landschaft public prosecutor's office to clarify the exact cause of the accident and how it happened
