After more than a year, the Basel police have arrested the alleged perpetrator of two petrol station robberies in Liestal. The suspect is a 27-year-old German national. He is now in custody.

The arrest was made last week, as the Basel police announced on Thursday. The public prosecutor's office opened criminal proceedings against the man and the suspect was remanded in custody by the compulsory measures court following an application by the public prosecutor's office.

The man is alleged to have committed two robberies at an "Avis" petrol station store on Rheinstrasse in Liestal in April 2023 and June 2023. In the first robbery, the man stole several hundred francs; in the second robbery, the cash register system could not be opened. In October, the public prosecutor's office in Basel offered a reward of 3,000 francs for information.
