Current Suspect in Basel homicide has committed murder before

The suspect in Thursday's homicide in Basel had already killed two women in the same neighborhood in 2014. This was confirmed by the Basel public prosecutor's office on Friday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The suspect was being treated as an inpatient at the Basel Psychiatric Clinic. He had already killed two women and seriously injured another man in the same neighborhood in 2014. In September 2015, the Basel criminal court ordered inpatient psychiatric treatment for the mentally ill man. It found that the mentally incompetent offender had committed multiple murder and attempted murder.

On Thursday, a 75-year-old woman was killed in an apartment building on Nasenweg in Basel's Breite district. The police then cordoned off the area around the crime scene.

As the "Basler Zeitung" newspaper wrote, the suspect was on "unaccompanied release" on Thursday. The University Hospitals of Basel did not wish to comment when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
