With the cold snap on Saturday, there were local snowflakes down to below 1000 meters above sea level. This was temporarily the case in the Appenzell-Alpstein region and in the St. Galle Rhine Valley.

The private weather service Meteonews reported at midday on Saturday that there had been further heavy rain and snow showers over the past 24 hours, with the snow line in the mountains falling to between 1200 and 1500 meters above sea level.

However, the snow had fallen on the warm ground at medium altitudes and had not been able to persist. Above 1800 to 2000 meters, however, several centimetres of fresh snow were added, for example 34 centimetres in Arosa and 25 centimetres on the Säntis.
