Audi suffered a slump in sales last year. The Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer announced that it delivered a good 200,000 fewer cars of its core brand.

The weak demand affected all key markets. There was also a downturn in electric mobility. Audi attributes the decline to the economic conditions, intense competition and limited availability of parts.

Specifically, Audi reported 1.67 million deliveries worldwide. This was almost 12 percent fewer than in 2023. The drop of 21 percent in the home market of Germany was particularly severe, but North America and the most important market of China also weakened with a decline of 13 percent. Deliveries in the latter slumped by 11 percent to 649,000 cars.

Europe performed best

Europe outside of Germany still performed best, with deliveries falling by only 6 percent to 466,000 cars. Audi also faced headwinds in the field of electric mobility: 164,000 fully electric cars represent a drop of 8 percent compared to the previous year.

However, Board Member for Sales Marco Schubert is indirectly hopeful of an improvement in the new year. "2024 was already classified as a transition year at the beginning," he says. Although there are "strong models in the pipeline", these will only gradually bring in volume. Audi boss Gernot Döllner emphasized that the company is convinced that it will achieve its own long-term goals. However, Audi is not currently specifying concrete sales targets.

Competitor Mercedes had already reported figures last week. The Stuttgart-based company also suffered a drop in sales, but at 3 percent to 1.98 million cars at Mercedes Benz Cars - including Smart - the decline was milder. The situation at Audi's sister company Porsche was similar, with a drop of three percent to 310,700 vehicles.
