Boeing has to write off the next billions. In the passenger aircraft division, there is a pre-tax charge of 1.1 billion dollars (1.06 billion euros), with a further 1.7 billion dollars in the defense sector.

Among other things, the struggling aircraft manufacturer pointed to the weeks-long strike by its workers in the fall, higher costs due to the new collective bargaining agreement and the problems with a new tanker aircraft and the next Air Force One. The company had already announced write-downs of around five billion dollars in October.
Boeing surprisingly presented some key data for the past quarter, so the full picture is not yet available. But it is becoming apparent that the figures will not be positive. Boeing put the loss per share at 5.46 dollars. Analysts had expected this figure to be four dollars better, according to CNBC. Boeing will present its full quarterly figures on Tuesday.
According to Boeing, a 900 million dollar charge in the passenger aircraft business is due to higher labor costs for the development of the next generation of the 777 long-haul jet following the collective bargaining agreement and lower deliveries of the 767 model due to the strike.
