Flooded streets and fallen trees - a short but severe summer storm flooded parts of the Italian capital on Tuesday. In less than an hour, 60 liters of rain per square meter fell in the center of the eternal city, as much as normally falls in an entire autumn month, the Italian news agency Ansa reported, citing the municipal authorities in Rome.

The rainfall of this intensity was completely unexpected and had not been predicted by any weather forecast, said the city's environmental officer Sabrina Alfonsi, according to Ansa. Shortly beforehand, the civil defense had been on their feet to put out some fires. The rain came with strong winds. Some underpasses were also flooded. More thunderstorms are forecast for the coming days in Rome, with daily highs of 32 degrees.
