The textile machinery group Rieter is planning further job cuts. According to a statement issued by Angestellte Schweiz on Friday, this could affect over 10 percent of the workforce in Switzerland.

When asked by the news agency AWP, the employee representatives said that the current consultation process affects 74 employees, with 14 employees having already resigned themselves. When asked, Rieter merely confirmed that the company is currently in the consultation process. However: "We can only comment on this once the process has been completed."

The possible redundancies at Rieter would continue the staff reductions of recent years. The long-established Winterthur-based company has already undergone several phases of restructuring.

Employees Switzerland is now calling on the company management to "assume comprehensive social responsibility and ensure that all decisions are implemented with the greatest possible consideration for the employees affected". The company should seriously consider alternatives to redundancies in order to minimize the negative impact on the workforce.
