The traffic jam in front of the south portal of the Gotthard road tunnel reached a length of ten kilometers on Friday afternoon. As the Touring Club of Switzerland announced on X, this meant a time loss of one hour and 40 minutes for vehicles.

As was the case last weekend, the approaching end of the summer vacation period led to increased traffic on the A2 freeway from the south to the north. The highway entrance in Airolo TI was closed to prevent traffic from avoiding the villages of Leventina.

In contrast, traffic heading south remained more modest. In Göschenen UR in front of the north portal of the Gotthard road tunnel, the traffic jam at lunchtime was only two kilometers long, which is equivalent to a waiting time of 20 minutes.
