No trains will be running over the Oberalp Pass until Friday evening due to a stalled train and a damaged switch. The train could not be towed on Tuesday due to bad weather.

The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway announced in a communiqué on Tuesday evening that the recovery of the train would take more time. As specialists are needed to repair the points, the line between the Oberalp Pass and Dieni will remain interrupted at least until the end of service on Friday.

A three-car train got stuck in a switch in Tschamut on the Graubünden side of the Oberalp Pass on Monday due to the heavy snowfall.

Trains between Dieni and Disentis will run according to schedule again from Wednesday, it was reported. However, services between Andermatt and the pass will remain suspended for the time being. A new assessment of the situation will be made in the course of Wednesday.

Rail traffic on the Andermatt-Visp route was also affected and temporarily interrupted on Tuesday. This was due to the risk of avalanches in the Urseren Valley and Obergoms, which meant that the roads in both high valleys were also closed. By midday, however, the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway was able to reopen both sections.

Car transport through the Furka Tunnel between Realp and Oberwald VS was also temporarily suspended. The reason for this was the closure of the road between Realp and Hospental UR due to the risk of avalanches. After the road was reopened to traffic, the first loading train departed from Oberwald again at 5.05 pm on Tuesday.
