Tourists in Paris will have to be prepared for more expensive tickets for the metro and local transport. The transport companies in the greater Paris area are clearing up their jungle of fares from the beginning of next year. Some tickets frequently used by tourists will become more expensive.

However, it will often be significantly cheaper for residents of the suburbs. Lower ticket prices are intended to encourage them to switch from cars to public transport, as Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France capital region responsible for local transport, told the newspaper "Le Parisien". "The only people we are making pay more are the tourists, because the tickets to the airport and the Paris Visite ticket will be more expensive," said Pécresse.

In future, a standard rate of 13 euros will apply for transfers between the airports and the city center, regardless of whether you use one of the buses or the metro. The cheapest option currently costs 10.30 euros, according to the transport company.

In future, the day or multi-day tickets intended for visitors will only be available for the greater Paris area, and no longer in a cheaper version limited to the Paris city area. Previously, a one-day ticket limited to the city area cost 13.95 euros. In future, one day will cost 29.90 euros, but will entitle the holder to travel throughout the entire metropolitan area, including the airports.

The price of a one-way ticket will also rise from 2.15 euros to 2.50 euros. However, unlike before, it will also be possible to travel into the surrounding area, for example to visit the Palace of Versailles.
