Switzerland's largest health insurers have founded a new industry association. This will begin its work at the start of 2025. The new association is intended to end the existing duopoly of two umbrella organizations, it was reported in a press release on Thursday.

This should strengthen the representation of interests in the health insurance industry, the new association announced on Thursday. The name of the association has not yet been decided and will be announced at a later date, it said on request.

The founding members are the health insurers Assura, Atupri, Concordia, CSS, EGK, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana, KPT, ÖKK, Sanitas, SWICA, Sympany and Visana. The existing memberships in the Santésuisse and Curafutura associations will be terminated.

The purpose of the new association is to unite the health insurance industry. According to the press release, the founding members already represent over 90 percent of basic health insurance policyholders in Switzerland. Other health insurers are welcome to join the new organization.
