Migros has already cut 660 jobs.
The Group's goal: to cut 1500 jobs.
Hundreds more employees will be made redundant in the coming months.
95 jobs will fall victim to the recent sale of the Migros subsidiary SportX. This was announced on Tuesday. blue News first reported on the completed sale of SportX to Ochsner Sport. 24 of the 49 stores will be taken over by Ochsner, three more stores will go to Dosenbach.
Theemployees of the affected stores can breathe a sigh of relief for the time being. They will continue to be employed by the new group. For the employees of the remaining locations, however, the big trembling begins. It is unclear what will happen to them. In an extreme case, these SportX stores will also be closed - and the employees will be left without a job. Migros wants to prevent this and has already indicated that it is in contact with other interested parties.
With the 95 jobs announced on Tuesday, Migros has already cut 660 jobs in recent weeks. In a first step, 150 jobs were cut at the Migros Supermarkt AG site in Zurich, followed a few weeks later by the cutbacks at Migros Industry: a total of 415 jobs were cut in this area. The next cutbacks followed on Tuesday.
Further waves of redundancies to follow
But Migros is not finished yet. Back in spring, the top management announced a total of around 1,500 job cuts. "This figure is still valid," Migros media spokesperson Marcel Schlatter told blue News. This means that despite several waves of redundancies, Migros has not even completed half of its redundancies.
Further waves will therefore follow. Schlatter hints at which areas are likely to be affected next: "Further (redundancy measures) are expected at Migros Fachmarkt AG and in other service units such as IT and logistics." Despite several waves of redundancies at Fachmarkt AG, employees in these areas must therefore continue to fear for their jobs.
What's more: Migros also wants to sell off other subsidiaries. The sale of the Micasa furnishing chain or the Do It + Garden specialist garden centers, for example, is still open. It is not known which companies might be interested in these areas.
Bike World's specialist bike stores are also still up for sale, as is the tour operator Hotelplan. DER Touristik, the second-largest travel company in Switzerland, is said to have shown interest in the latter company, as blue News has already reported.
It remains to be seen when these businesses will be sold. According to Migros spokesperson Schlatter, the processes are "proceeding according to plan". A decision should be made in the next few months, according to Schlatter. "I expect decisions to be made in the fall or winter."
Until then, the great trembling continues for Migros employees.
