Sell-off at Migros. Following the sale of Melectronics, the retailer has got rid of its SportX sports chain - and is selling it to Ochsner Sport. This was reported to blue News by several independent sources at SportX and Migros.
The employees of Ochsner Sport and SportX were informed of the sale on Tuesday morning. According to an internal letter sent to Ochsner staff on Tuesday morning, 24 of the 49 SportX stores will be taken over by Ochsner Sport. The future of 22 stores is still unclear. Three stores will be taken over by Dosenbach. Migros has confirmed the sale in an official announcement.
According to the letter from Ochsner's management to the workforce, they are looking forward to expanding the existing branch network. However, the letter does not specify the exact background or when the integration will take place. "We welcome a competent team that will take Swiss sports retail to the next level under the strong Ochsner Sport brand and inspire our customers," Ochsner CEO Horst Hauer is quoted as saying in a press release.
Job cuts by April 2025
At Migros alone, 95 jobs are to be cut. According to a high-ranking Migros employee, however, up to 120 jobs could ultimately be affected on both sides. According to the internal letter, however, all SportX apprentices will be transferred to the Ochsner structure. According to Migros, "positions of employees who work directly for SportX" will be eliminated.
"The divestments will also reduce the need for other services from overarching areas of Migros Fachmarkt AG such as Digital Business, Operations, Administration, Training and Migros Service," the Migros press release states. The jobs are to be cut by April 2025.
Rumors of a possible sale of SportX to Ochsner Sport have been circulating among employees for several weeks.
