A wolf killed two goats on Schwägalp AR on Wednesday and Thursday. The animals were not protected by herd protection measures, wrote the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in a statement on Friday.

DNA samples taken could provide information about the wolf in question. The analysis is still pending.

Several farm animals have been killed in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in recent months. The canton assumes that there is a single wolf in the region. There are no indications of a pair or pack formation.

The requirements for shooting the wolf are currently not met according to federal hunting legislation, the press release continued. Wolves would have to cause several cases of damage to livestock in protected herds before such a measure could be considered.
