The resignation announcement comes just a few weeks after Amherd completed her presidential year. The resignation of Centre Party President Gerhard Pfister at the beginning of this week fanned the flames of rumors about Amherd stepping down once again. Now there is clarity.

The 62-year-old centrist politician from Brig-Glis VS has been a member of the national government since 2019, succeeding Doris Leuthard.
