The United Nations is recording a rapid increase in attacks on the healthcare system in Lebanon. "Over the past few days, we have seen an alarming increase in attacks on healthcare workers in Lebanon," said Imran Riza, UN relief coordinator for the country. "Health workers are paying the biggest price with their lives. The health system is on the verge of collapse."

According to UN figures, more than 70 healthcare workers have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the new confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah, including 28 within 24 hours. Attacks on healthcare facilities and damage to such facilities are on the rise, Riza's office recently announced.

The doctors' syndicate in Lebanon spoke of a "massacre by Israel against Lebanese medical personnel". Israel would prevent emergency doctors from evacuating the injured. Three hospitals were forced to shut down after Israeli attacks.
