The two top Republican politicians Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley will not be part of the future administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

The 78-year-old wrote on his Truth Social platform: "I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration, which is currently under construction. I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously and want to thank them for their service to our country."

Most recently, Trump had set the pace in putting together his government team. On Friday, he appointed his former campaign manager Susan Wiles as Chief of Staff in the White House. Wiles is the first woman to hold this important office. Trump is expected to announce further personnel decisions in the coming days.

During the election campaign, Trump spoke of the "best minds" in the country that he wants to bring to his side for his second term in office. Several names have already been circulated, including that of Pompeo. According to the US media, he was being considered for Secretary of Defense. Haley, on the other hand, had been given rather poor chances. She was once US ambassador to the United Nations under Trump. She then challenged her former boss in the race for the Republican candidacy, which he did not like at all.
