USA FBI corrects information: 14 fatalities in New Orleans

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revised the death toll from the attack in New Orleans downwards. 14 innocent people were killed in the attack, the FBI announced at a press conference in New Orleans. In addition, there was the perpetrator who was shot during the attack. Previously, the authorities had said that 15 people had lost their lives as a result of the attack.

In New Orleans, a few hours after midnight on New Year's morning, a white pick-up truck plowed through a crowd of celebrating passers-by in the French Quarter, a district popular with tourists. The FBI classifies the crime as an act of terrorism. The perpetrator was therefore a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia. According to the police, he was a US citizen and ex-soldier.

According to the investigators, the perpetrator exchanged gunfire with police officers after the drive. Two of them were injured. The perpetrator died in the skirmish.
