There are currently no plans to initiate such proceedings, said opposition leader Lee Jae Myung of the Democratic Party (DP).
According to media reports, Lee's party had sought to lodge a complaint against Han following Yoon's brief declaration of martial law at the beginning of December. The largest opposition party had also called for Han and his role in the case to be investigated.
Yoon had surprisingly imposed martial law in the midst of a budget dispute with the opposition and had come under massive criticism for doing so. An initial impeachment motion failed a week ago. With the National Assembly's decision, Yoon has been relieved of his duties - at least for the time being.
Phone call with US President Biden
Meanwhile, Han assured US President Joe Biden in a telephone call that diplomatic relations and security policy would continue without interruption. According to the official Yonhap news agency, the 75-year-old said that the alliance between South Korea and the United States would be maintained without any fluctuations.
The USA, as an important ally of the East Asian country, also expressed its willingness to promote common interests with Han, as the spokesman for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, explained.
