Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi can only imagine talks with Russia on ending the war under certain conditions. "On the condition that Ukraine does not (negotiate) with Russia alone and that Ukraine will be strong," the head of state told the country's public radio station.

In the current situation, it was to be expected that negotiations would end badly for Ukraine. "From our side, we must do everything we can to ensure that this war ends next year, ends diplomatically," said Selensky.

In order to strengthen Ukraine's negotiating position, Zelenskyi is hoping for help from its Western allies. In a "victory plan", there was talk of "real diplomacy" from a position of strength. The five-point plan includes the demand for an invitation to join the Western military alliance NATO during the war. In addition, Ukraine is to be massively rearmed and Russia is to be subjected to stronger sanctions.

The Russian war of aggression has now been going on for almost 1,000 days. Moscow controls a good fifth of Ukraine's territory.
