Russian troops have made further progress in eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian military observers. In the small town of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region, which is threatened by encirclement and has suffered considerable destruction, the Russian forces have been able to make territorial gains.
Russian troops also made an advance in the city of Kupyansk in the north-eastern Kharkiv region. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed this attack, but emphasized that it was largely repulsed. Kupyansk is a strategically important railroad junction on the Oskil River and was liberated from Russian occupation in the fall of 2022 following a Ukrainian counter-offensive.
Drone attacks and defense measures
In the morning, the Ukrainian air defense reported 59 night-time drone attacks from the Russian border region of Kursk. In the Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava and Kiev regions, 21 of these drones were shot down. The remaining 38 drones disappeared from radar, indicating the use of electronic defenses.
For more than two and a half years, Ukraine has been defending itself against the extensive Russian invasion with the support of Western countries.
