At least twelve people were killed and around 30 others injured this afternoon in the refugee district of Al-Shati when the Israeli air force bombed a former school building, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported, citing medical sources. According to the report, the building in the north of the Gaza Strip was housing displaced people.

The information could not initially be independently verified. When asked, Israel's army said it was examining the report.

A spokesman for the Israeli military called on residents of the area and neighboring districts of the city of Gaza in the north of the coastal region to flee south after the suspected attack. Terrorist organizations fired rockets from there towards Israel. The area is now a combat zone. The army had already been deployed there in the past.

According to Wafa, there were also fatalities in attacks in other places, including Rafah in the south and Jabliya in the north of the Gaza Strip. According to medical sources, at least ten Palestinians were killed in the shelling of the Nuseirat refugee quarter in the center of the area. This information could not initially be independently verified either. When asked, Israel's military said it was also investigating these reports.
