Dozens of places in Lebanon have been heavily destroyed in the course of the Israeli offensive against the Hezbollah militia, according to a report. As the Lebanese state news agency NNA reported, citing its own sources, entire streets or neighborhoods in 37 towns were reduced to rubble.

In the process, 40,000 houses and apartments are said to have been destroyed. The south of the country was particularly affected, according to the report. A political expert from the Beirut think tank "Information International" told the London-based newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" that 29 towns near the border had now been completely destroyed.

The Israeli military emphasizes that it only attacks buildings that serve the Shiite militia Hezbollah as hiding places or weapons depots. Since the beginning of the Gaza war last year, Hezbollah, which is linked to Iran, has been regularly firing rockets at Israel from the south of Lebanon. Tens of thousands of Israelis have had to leave their homes as a result. Since the beginning of October this year, Israel has been conducting a ground offensive in Lebanon against Hezbollah. The Israeli government wants to enable its citizens to return to their homes.

However, the humanitarian situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate. According to the United Nations, over 800,000 people have had to flee their homes as a result of the Israeli attacks.

The UN observer mission Unifil in southern Lebanon reported severe destruction to the country's infrastructure. Some roads were impassable, it said in a message on the short message service X. The blue helmets are clearing rubble and repairing roads in order to secure supplies to their bases.
