At the delegates' meeting in Herisau AR on Saturday, Green Party President Lisa Mazzone swore her party into a "referendum legislature". While climate protection and equal opportunities are being cut, military spending is rising inexorably.

And this despite the fact that the federal government's financial situation is stable, as Mazzone was quoted as saying in the presidential speech published in advance. The reduction package proposed by the Confederation is an ideological project "that forces us to take steps backwards wherever society has made progress in recent years", Mazzone continued.

The reduction package ignores the major challenges of the present. "The army, freeways and nuclear power are the buzzwords." The Greens would fight this "anti-environmental" reduction package with determination - in the commissions, in parliament - and if necessary in a referendum.

Despite the support for the energy transition among the population, attempts will be made to bring the construction of new nuclear power plants back onto the agenda, the party leadership announced in advance. The Greens therefore want to adopt a nuclear power plant resolution on Saturday - and prepare for a possible referendum.

The party also intends to vote on the Young Greens' environmental responsibility initiative in February 2025. The initiative calls for an economy "within planetary boundaries".
