More than a month and a half after the parliamentary elections in France, head of state Emmanuel Macron is continuing his consultations on the search for a stable government. In the morning, he received the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet.

Macron also plans to speak with Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella from the right-wing nationalist Rassemblement National, her ally Éric Ciotti and the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, during the course of the day.

The head of state is expected to inform the population of the results of the consultations on Monday evening. According to French media, however, there is likely to be another round of talks on Tuesday before Macron possibly appoints a new prime minister by Wednesday evening and thus the start of the Paralympic Games.

The left-wing alliance Nouveau Front Populaire came first in the early parliamentary elections - ahead of Macron's centrist forces and the right-wing nationalists around Le Pen. No party received an absolute majority in the National Assembly. Forming a government is therefore proving difficult.

Macron's centrist camp has a kind of grand coalition in mind. The conservatives have already ruled out participating in the government. In addition, Macron's troops do not want to work together with the left-wing party La France Insoumise, which is part of the left-wing alliance. The alliance, on the other hand, wants to act as one.
