According to the authorities, it was once again mainly energy facilities that were targeted. "Two objects of critical infrastructure in the districts of Drohobych and Stryj were hit," said the military governor of the western Ukrainian region of Lviv, Maxym Kosyzkyj, on Telegram.
According to him, the region was bombarded with cruise missiles. There were no deaths or injuries. Emergency power cuts were also not necessary in Lviv. In neighboring Ivano-Frankivsk, energy supply systems were also shelled. The emergency services were deployed and the situation was under control, assured Governor Svitlana Onyshchuk.
In other regions, however, there were blackouts. Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko justified this with preventive measures due to the missile attack. The regions affected were Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad. However, there is no information about damage in the regions so far.
According to the Ukrainian air defense, the Russian military used cruise missiles as well as Kinschal hypersonic missiles and other ballistic missiles in the attack. Russian fighter jets also dropped glide bombs over regions close to the border, such as Sumy.
Russia is systematically targeting energy facilities in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, around half of Ukraine's energy capacities have been destroyed.
