French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have exchanged views in a telephone call following anger over a demand to stop arms deliveries. According to the French presidential palace, Macron reiterated in the open and respectful conversation that France's commitment to Israel's security is unwavering. At the same time, he also expressed his conviction that the time had come for a ceasefire.

On Saturday, Macron had called for an arms embargo against Israel for the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu reacted angrily.

According to the presidential palace, Macron reminded Netanyahu of the mobilization of French military resources to defend Israel during the attacks by Iran in recent months. He also emphasized that Israel, like any other country, has the right to defend itself against terrorism. The attacks on Israel and its citizens must stop, whether by Iran or its auxiliary forces in the region. At the same time, Macron stated that arms deliveries, the prolongation of the war in Gaza and its extension to Lebanon could not create the security that Israelis and everyone in the region expected.

Netanyahu, on the other hand, reiterated that Israel expected support from its friends and not restrictions that would only strengthen the Iranian axis of evil.
