Singer and rapper Lizzo ("Truth Hurts") is campaigning for Democrat Kamala Harris in the US presidential election campaign. "I'm proud to say that I voted. I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris," said the 36-year-old at a Harris campaign event in Detroit in the battleground state of Michigan.

Lizzo is from Detroit herself. "If you ask me if America is ready for its first female president, I can only say one thing: It's about damn time," Lizzo continued. If Harris wins the election on November 5, the whole country will be like Detroit - "proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit".

Stars take a stand in the election campaign

Numerous superstars have recently taken a clear stance and backed Democrat Harris - including singers such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Beyoncé, music legend Bruce Springsteen and actor George Clooney. US musician Usher will later perform together with Harris in Atlanta in the fiercely contested state of Georgia. Trump is supported by rock rapper Kid Rock and rapper Kanye West, among others.

Harris warns against Trump: "increasingly unstable"

Harris herself answered a few questions from the press before her appearance in Detroit - and commented on her Republican rival Donald Trump, among other things. "Donald Trump has shown himself to be increasingly unstable and unfit," she warned. "I think the American people are seeing that in real time, and we need to take note that this is a person who wants to be president of the United States." A short time later on stage, she again poked fun at Trump's campaign appearances. "He talks about himself and mythical figures all the time, not about working people, not about you."
