Moscow is sticking to its war aims in Ukraine despite Kiev's efforts to negotiate. "As soon as these goals have been achieved in one way or another, the special military operation will be completed," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

According to the Russian news agency Interfax, he was reacting to statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who declared during his trip to the US that the end of the war was closer than many had expected. In the USA, Zelensky presented what he called his victory plan, with which he wants to urge Moscow to negotiate.

Moscow, on the other hand, had always declared that there was no alternative to a Russian victory. With its war of aggression, which has been going on for more than two and a half years, Russia primarily wants to prevent Ukraine from joining Nato. Other war aims include the complete capture and occupation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, which have only been partially controlled by Moscow to date.
