The US Senate has confirmed John Ratcliffe as the new director of the US foreign intelligence agency CIA by a large majority. 74 senators voted for him, 25 against him, including many Democrats. Ratcliffe was then sworn in by Vice President J.D. Vance in the White House, according to the CIA. The former congressman from Texas is considered a confidant of President Donald Trump. Ratcliffe was previously co-chairman of a conservative think tank close to Trump. During the Republican's first term in office, he worked as intelligence coordinator. At the time, the Democrats accused Ratcliffe of abusing his position for political purposes, among other things.
