Israel's President Izchak Herzog has canceled his visit to the World Climate Summit in Baku. The reason was "security considerations", Herzog's office announced. No details were initially given. Israeli media speculated that there were concerns about possible Iranian attacks on Israeli targets in Azerbaijan.

Herzog first traveled to Azerbaijan for a state visit in May 2023. The Islamic country is considered an important geostrategic partner for the government in Jerusalem because it borders Iran, which is hostile to Israel. Meanwhile, relations between Baku and Tehran are traditionally considered difficult. In the past, the Iranian leadership has accused the neighboring country of cooperating with its arch-enemy Israel.
