According to a media report, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned of an end to the ceasefire with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. Israel will be forced to act if the Hezbollah fighters do not withdraw from southern Lebanon as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement, the minister told the "Times of Israel" newspaper.

Israel is interested in maintaining the ceasefire, Katz emphasized. However, the condition was that the Hezbollah fighters withdraw behind the Litani River around 30 kilometers north of the Israeli-Lebanese border and that the Lebanese army dismantle all weapons and terrorist infrastructure in the border area. However, this has not yet happened, warned Katz.

The ceasefire has been in force since the end of November. It is initially to apply for around two months, i.e. until the end of January. During this time, not only is the Hezbollah militia to withdraw behind the Litani, but the Israeli army is also to leave the country. At the same time, the Lebanese army is to increase its presence in the border area.
