According to the army, the Israeli airstrike in a humanitarian zone in the Gaza Strip was aimed at a number of senior Hamas terrorists. They were operating from a covert command center in the humanitarian zone in Chan Junis in the south of the Gaza Strip.

This was announced by Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari on Platform X. According to the Director of Supply for the Civil Defense in Gaza, at least 40 people were killed in the airstrike and more than 60 were injured. None of the information can currently be independently verified.

According to the army, one of the targets of the attack was the head of Hamas air systems in the Gaza Strip. The head of a Hamas reconnaissance unit and another high-ranking member of the Islamist terrorist organization were also named as targets, without details of his exact role.

"These terrorists were directly involved in the massacre on October 7 and have recently been carrying out terrorist activities against the Israeli army and the State of Israel," the statement continued. Intensive intelligence observation and aerial surveillance in the hours leading up to the attack had "confirmed the presence of the terrorists in the area along with other terror activists".

The casualty figures cited by the civilian defense do not match the information provided by the army, the precise weapons used and the accuracy of the attack, Hagari added. Hamas continues to abuse civilians as shields and hide fighters and infrastructure in the humanitarian zone.

Hamas, on the other hand, had stated on its Telegram channel that Israel's claim that its fighters were in the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone near Khan Yunis was "a blatant lie".
